A mobile suit developed by Zeonic Co., one of the Principality of Zeon's weapons manufacturers. It was formally adopted by the Principality forces as a successor to the MS-05 (0 Zaku). This humanoid weapon has superb maneuverability, and can operate either in space or on land with only a few modifications, making it remarkably versatile. It's also easy to operate, allowing any trained pilot to handle it. Together with its ease of maintenance and production, this led to the establishment of a mass production system.
A wide variety of weapons were prepared for it, such as a heat hawk and Zaku machine gun for close and medium-range combat, a Zaku bazooka for anti-ship use, throwing weapons known as crackers, and many other options. Thus it can handle all kinds of situations, including guerilla warfare and anti-mobile suit combat. Large numbers of these machines were deployed in the One Year War (Zeon War of Independence) against the Earth Federation Forces, which broke out in U.C.0079. They produced especially significant results in the opening stages of the war as the main machine of the Principality forces.
Weaponry
Zaku Bazooka
This projectile weapon is a recoilless rifle for anti-ship use. It's capable of long-range bombardment, and due to its length, the barrel is carried on the shoulder during use.
Zaku Machine Gun
A ranged projectile weapon developed for use by the Zaku. Its excellent rapid-fire capabilities make it ideal for sweeping away obstructions and combat vehicles.
Shield
A fixed shield mounted on the right shoulder. Since it moves together with the arm, the shoulder is thrust forward to guard against incoming attacks.
Heat Hawk
A melee weapon for anti-mobile suit combat. Its red-hot blade burns through enemy armor.
Spikes
Striking weapons attached to the left shoulder. These three spikes can damage enemy armor. and are used in ramming attacks and other forms of hand-to-hand combat.
