A prototype mobile suit for Newtypes, developed as the second unit of the gMS-Ω GQuuuuuuX. In addition to a basic structure that incorporates a Core Block System, it shares equipment such as its beam rifle and shield with the first QuuuuuuX unit. Its points of difference include the Psycommu weapons installed in its head, the shapes of its back thrusters and shoulders, and a color scheme based on purple, orange, and green.
While the GQuuuuuuX is equipped with Omega Psycommu, the GFreD supposedly has a special Psycommu rivaling the Omega type, but the details are unclear because this is a top military secret among the Principality of Zeon forces.
The GFreD and its special Psycommu were constructed as a trigger for the weapon of mass destruction known as Yomagn'tho. Once activated, this can fire a “Zeknova cannon" capable of destroying a space fortress-class structure with a single shot. Activating its Psycommu, however, is said to require a pilot with very particular Newtype abilities.
Beam Rifle
A ranged weapon for anti-mobile suit combat. It fires mega particles at high velocity to destroy the armor of enemy machines.
Beam Saber
A mega particle-circulating beam saber mounted behind the waist. The particles that form the blade rotate at high speed to give this close combat weapon excellent cutting power. The FreD can carry a maximum of two sabers.
Shield
A defensive weapon worn on the arm. It has a two-layered construction, made up of a physical shield covered by an electromagnetic one. It was also meant to house a miniaturized I-field generator, but as with the GQuuuuuuX, this has not yet been implemented.
ES Bit: Luna/Artemis
Energy Simplification Bit (ES Bit) is a remote-controlled device mounted on the head. It is operated through a psycommu system, which also enables all-range attacks using its mega-particle cannon. Thanks to the energy simplification system, ES Bits are smaller than traditional bits, which required internal generators and propellants.
Core Fighter
A small fighter that functions as the machine's control console and backpack. It can be detached to fly independently. When separated, it has almost no combat capabilities, giving it a strong connotation of an emergency bailout device. The shape of the thrusters is different from those of the GQuuuuuuX.
