There was a high-end model of the MS-06 Zaku known as the “S Type" for use by commanders. This machine was given to officers who commanded mobile suit forces, and one of its distinctive traits was that the pilots could freely change its coloring.
The MS-06S Char's Zaku was a personalized commander-type Zaku piloted by Char Aznable, the “Red Comet," and as per his nickname the machine was repainted in red. Aside from the blade antenna on its head for communications, the machine's shape and armament were indistinguishable from the standard type. However, it was designed for improved thrust and maneuverability, and by some accounts it displayed 1.3 times normal performance.
Handling this machine required accordingly higher piloting skills, but it seems that Char, an ace of the Principality forces, managed this with ease. During the Side 7 attack in which he captured the Earth Federation Forces' prototype Gundam and its mothership Pegasus, Char used this machine to successfully infiltrate the colony interior.
Spikes
Striking weapons attached to the left shoulder. These three spikes can damage enemy armor. and are used in ramming attacks and other forms of hand-to-hand combat.
Zaku Bazooka
This projectile weapon is a recoilless rifle for anti-ship use. Its capable of long-range bombardment, and due to its length, the barrel is carried on the shoulder during use.
Zaku Machine Gun
A ranged projectile weapon developed for use by the Zaku. During the attack on Side 7, it was able to destroy the Federation Forces' new Guntank models.
Heat Hawk
A melee weapon for anti-mobile suit combat. Its red-hot blade burns through enemy armor.
Shield
A fixed shield mounted on the right shoulder. Since it moves together with the arm, the shoulder is thrust forward to guard against incoming attacks.
