My wishes over their airspace
I’m writing this half an hour before the blog is set to go live. The made-sense-at-the-time-idea was to write this first post, last! You know, convey the anticipation, mood of this moment. Turns out, that mood is anxiety 💦 as a few Day 1 posts still need a lot of work! Anyhow, it’s all still quite exciting so… thanks for checking out my new site: gundampixel.com!
Intros first I guess. I’m gundampixel 👋 and as the name suggests, I’m a little partial to the Gundam franchise. My introduction to the show was binge watching Mobile Fighter G Gundam via a gifted VCD set in the late 90s (with a Chinese dub & Japanese subs - neither language I understood at the time!). Things really clicked around the mid 00’s where I fell into watching 00, then First Gundam, then Zeta, then Turn A, and you know how this goes.
I’ve been posting actively about Gundam on social since 2023 — first on Twitter/X, and now Bluesky. With the landscape of social media platforms in a constant state of flux, creating this website felt like a natural next step. A place where posts aren’t lost deep within a thread! The ability to edit! You know, the age-old website ‘stuff’ that can be a challenge in feeds designed to boost rapid, frequent, engagement. Plus, less reliance on platforms that could implode at any time isn’t always the worst thing.
The state of play:
⏰ 12 new posts are set to go live today, each hopefully on the hour from 1pm - 12am JST. Expect a mix of things, to offer a taste of how the blog might come together over these first few months.
🛍️ The Gunpla Releases List soft-launched a couple of weeks ago in its latest iteration (previously on Trello). A big thanks to everyone who has shared feedback.
🌟 A Ko-fi donation channel is open to help fund extra activities - e.g. traveling to a special event, deep diving into archival media, etc. If you have ideas for something outside my normal remit that you’d be keen on seeing — please ping me on Bluesky and I’ll consider it for an upcoming goal. Something that requires longer-distance travel or a dedicated purchase is the kind of thing I’m talking about here. At the end of each month, I’ll post a transparent summary of how any contributions have been allocated.
🚀 More on the way very soon, like a Credits Archive. I’m also looking into extra site features, such as auto-dark-theme support.
Please mind the odd thing that looks scrappy, broken or unfinished. I’ll need a few weeks to work things up to a slightly more refined state. Everything is currently penned by me, with no AI input — so please set a low bar for copywriting quality. All this said, I think it’ll be a good time. This entire initiative only exists because of everyone’s enthusiasm & support to date, so thank you! 🖖
