This is an advanced variant of the Zaku, a Mobile Suit secretly developed by the Principality of Zeon preceding the One Year War. The unit that LeSean piloted from the time he was in space was destroyed by the Gundam, and the Unidentified Type was promptly assembled on the battlefield using discarded parts from a recycling center.
Additional parts were added to various sections to counter the Gundam's beam weapons, and its most prominent feature is the shield attached to its left arm which closely resembles the skirt armor of the YMT-05 Hildolfr with treads from Magella-Attacks applied to it. Furthermore, logs were attached to the right shoulder and skirt parts with the hopes that they would protect the unit from beam weapons.
Its “manufacturing" process was urgently carried out to engage with the Gundam's attacks, and this operation was not based on a formal military order. Therefore, it did not receive an official name and was referred to as the Unidentified Type. The handiwork of the Zeon mechanics can be observed from the fact that the uneven design of the left and right sides was balanced and tuned to achieve capabilities equal to regular Zaku Il units.
