The Gundam Wing Dinner Show ~ Part 3 of 5 ~

— Operation Gratification —

In anticipation of the Dinner Show, two separate areas housed some extra treats for Gundam Wing fans.

First up, was what I can best describe as an ‘activity space’ — packed with a variety of displays.

Immediately on the right-hand side after entering was the Gundam Fan Club table. A humble setup, as is typical for the Gundam FC, with two attendants.

With its Wing focus, the latest club magazine was on full display, and attendees could sign up by paying on the spot. Existing members (including yours truly), were able to collect an exclusive sticker by presenting their account number via the official mobile app.

The member-exclusive sticker is quite simple in its design — just the event logo. Still, a nice bonus.

The soft toy corner caught me a little by surprise! A large display — with six chibi Wing friends on hand, ready to pose freely for photos. Display stands were even included, for anyone with enough creativity in the moment to compose something more dramatic.

I was pleased to see a large cutout of the original Wing Gundam. Whilst Katoki’s Endless Waltz revisions have arguably become more iconic in the years succeeding the show, Okawara’s original design set the tone for everything to follow.

Next up, another soft toy corner! Same setup as the first, but with an alternative background illustration. And bear-suit Heero, yes — adorable bear-suit Heero. 🧸

Completing the room’s right-hand side was a spread of life-size character cutouts. Notable inclusion being Long Meilan, though no Quatre to be seen.

The showpiece at the end of the room was a large-scale board featuring the Gundam Wing 30th Anniversary key artwork. You could tell it had been upscaled a touch, but it did look incredible with many of the fine details more prominent at this scale. Much nostalgia unlocked by simply staring at the details of the Wing Zero variants for a short while.

Turning back to make one’s way toward the room’s entrance, attendees were greeted by two of what I can only consider some of the best photo frames of all time.

Tear the programme, I dare you!

If you weren’t already tired of the chibi soft toy displays, well — brace yourself for another! This time a multi-sided setup, with the characters placed in or around small baskets. Some attendees did take time posing these and taking photos.

Closing out this room was a Primaniacs pop-up. Primaniacs is a fragrance brand based out of Ginza, specializing in character-themed products. Gundam Wing is their fifth Gundam-related collaboration if I’m not mistaken, following SEED FREEDOM, Witch from Mercury, Iron-Blooded Orphans and GQuuuuuuX.

Each fragrance is inspired by a specific character, and the general concept very well executed. Attendees were able to buy fragrances directly from the pop-up store, separately from the main merchandise stall.

A staff member handed me a Relena sample. Not sure why Relena specifically, but it did smell very nice!

The room directly next door housed the event merchandise stall. Entering the queue required pre-booking (see Part 1), though any attendee could take a look at the display table near the entrance.

Your typical event-fare, though all very nice! A selection of acrylic standees, both regular and chibi sized; badges & stickers; some TWO-MIX CDs; and a pretty hefty pen light. The pen light cycles between colors on press — one to represent each of the five pilots. Note the character focus here, no Gunpla or mobile suit figures in sight.

On entering the queue, you were handed an A4 sheet of paper with a clip-pen. The process being to write the total in the box at the bottom-right of any item/s that you planned to purchase. Most items had a maximum purchase limit.

For a little late-night math, you had to write the total price to be paid in Yen at the bottom right of the sheet. You’d then hand this sheet to the staff member when called to the front table — where they’d collect the items and confirm them with you before requesting payment. I bought a few treats, which I’m excited to open once back in Tokyo next week.

With all the pre-event spaces covered, next up is Part 4 — the first half of the Dinner Show itself. Ping me on Bluesky if you have any questions or thoughts! 🍽️
