The Gundam Wing Dinner Show ~ Part 1 of 5 ~
Saturday December 27th 2025 marked a first for the Gundam franchise — a lavish dinner event in celebration of a series’ anniversary. In this case, the ‘Gundam Wing 30th Anniversary Dinner Show -Operation Reunion-’. 🪽
Thanks to generous donations, I was able to secure a ticket for what turned out to be an evening of powerful live performances, psychedelic musical surprises, emotional group-karaoke, and even a mini quiz! Plus the treat of watching select Wing moments whilst enjoying a delicious multi-course meal, together with other fans at The Prince Park Tower Tokyo.
Join me in this 5-part series of posts — where I’ll dive into everything from applying for a ticket, through to sumptuous details of the show itself.
Part 1 — Operation Application —
The event was announced in the Summer, as an epic finale to the year and the pinnacle of Gundam Wing’s 30th Anniversary celebrations. It promised the first-ever reunion of the show’s original five pilot voice actors — with live performances and even some new material to enjoy.
Tickets were sold in five waves of lotteries, with the first starting August 9th. No direct purchases, outside of a late-game resale.
The first wave was exclusive to Gundam Fan Club members (of which I fall into), and thankfully I was able to successfully secure a place at the table.
Whilst at the event, I heard horror-stories from other fans. One person had only managed to retrieve a ticket three days prior to the event during the resale rush after months of failed lottery applications… when after finally reaching the payment view, the website locked up and crashed entirely. Their successful attempt wasn’t until hours later, once another open ticket had finally become available.
The ticket lottery was managed by mega-anime-chain animate, through the MOALA ticketing platform. Once logged in, application was via a straightforward form. For the first round in which I applied, there was a choice between one of the two time slots ( it had to be evening, it’s a dinner after all! ), payment info, plus a space to note my Gundam Fan Club membership number.
A few weeks later I received an email from animate, stating that the lottery application was successful! And that my card would be now billed for the full total.
Fast forward to early December, another email arrived from animate. It featured a link to a simple Google Form with two primary purposes: i) allergies or specific meal preferences, and ii) full confirmation of attendance. A response was compulsory, and I’m unsure what would’ve been the case if I chose not to do so!
I received one final email on December 15th, regarding the process for buying merchandise at the event. Typically you’d simply join the queue and wait. But not this time! To enter the merchandise area, you needed to link your Line ID with the ‘Gundam Wing Goods’ account; then via its chat — apply in advance for an entry slot from the limited times available.
Immediately after submitting the application, I received a success message. This confirmation view via the Line app would be a requirement to enter the queue on the day, with no screenshots permitted.
With this being a higher-profile event than usual - at least for the Gundam franchise - there were some additional requirements.
First up, to enter the main event area — your original ticket via the MOALA ticketing page (no screenshots, once again!), plus a form of ID, were both essential. The official page was extremely specific here - see below! I was able to enter with my Residence Card / 在留カード.
And then, the very unspecific but extremely-specific dress code! Officially there was no formal dress code, though with multiple caveats including… no distracting hats, no long garments that could be of nuisance to others, no masks covering one’s full face, no cosplaying either as characters or mobile suits, and… you get the idea.
The reality on the day was a fun, eclectic mix of outfits — from kimonos and tailored suits, through to hoodies and Gundam tees.
Next up! Join me in a photo-filled Part 2 — Operation Celebration — as I arrived at the event, and took some time to appreciate the wonderful gifts from fans & associated parties. For now, feel free to check out my live impressions thread on Bluesky and ping me anytime with questions or thoughts.
